Being born with a sterile environment of the digestive system, the child’s body is most susceptible to the negative effects of various toxic and polluting substances. The child’s immune system is unable to fight external agents on its own. Therefore, signs of allergic reactions may often appear, which the new sorbent can cope with. The drug Polysorb, according to the instructions for use, is approved even for newborns.
Operating principle
The release form of the drug Polysorb is white powder. Before ingestion, it must first be diluted in water. It is not recommended to use it in dry form internally.
There are two types of Polysorb packaging that make its use more convenient. These are plastic containers with a volume of 12, 25 and 50 ml and paper bags that produce 3 grams. This dosage is sufficient for an adult for 1 dose.
The main active ingredient of this product is colloidal silicon dioxide, which is isolated from a mineral known as silica through chemical reactions. It is also often used in homeopathy for medicinal purposes.
Before giving Polysorb to a child, you need to know its mechanism of action. Silicon dioxide, upon contact with water, is transformed into a complex spatial figure that is capable of binding and removing substances of any molecular weight. Radionuclides, antigens, bacteria and bacterial toxins, drugs and poisons, allergens, some metabolic products (excess cholesterol, bilirubin, lipid complexes, urea, alcohol breakdown products) - all these exogenous and endogenous toxins are fixed on the surface of the silicon molecule and leave the body naturally way.
The drug does not affect the normal intestinal microflora, as a result, parietal digestion is not disturbed. In the gastrointestinal tract, the medicine is not broken down or absorbed, is not retained anywhere and is freely excreted from the body unchanged.
Composition and release forms
Polysorb is produced in the form of a powder for suspension, packaged in disposable bags of label paper with a thermal layer, for a single dose of use. Depending on the dosage, sachets for children may contain 1 or 3 g of white or white with a blue tint of odorless powder, which forms a suspension when shaken. The drug is also available in plastic jars of 12, 25 or 50 g.
The basis of the drug is colloidal silicon dioxide, which is a crystalline, colorless substance with high hardness and strength. This substance is quite resistant to acid attack and does not react when interacting with water.
When to give Polysorb to a child?
Most often, the drug is prescribed for foodborne infections accompanied by diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. However, the instructions indicate other indications for the use of this product. They are:
- Colds. Most microorganisms that provoke the development of these diseases are toxic to the child’s body. They contribute to the appearance of unpleasant symptoms in the form of nausea, weakness, aches in muscles and joints. The danger of such poisonings is that they can be fatal.
- Skin diseases, allergic reactions. Polysorb is prescribed for allergic reactions, eczema, dermatitis. The drug binds toxins and allergens and removes them from the body without causing harm to the child’s health. Cleansing may take some time, so it is recommended to give the medicine over a long period (from 1 month).
- Infectious diseases. The entry of infectious agents into the body is accompanied by an increase in body temperature. To alleviate a child’s condition with ARVI, bronchitis, pyelonephritis, tonsillitis or other disease, Polysorb is used. The sorbent is also prescribed at the end of the acute period in order to speed up the recovery process and restore the functioning of internal organs and systems.
- Helminthic infestations. Antiparasitic agents kill worms, causing the development of intoxication. The sorbent removes parasites and their metabolic products from the body, improving the child’s well-being.
Indications
Doctors recommend taking Polysorb to cleanse the body of alcohol and use it as an aid for many health problems:
- food or chemical poisoning;
- rotavirus infection;
- toxic infections;
- intoxication due to purulent abscess of internal organs;
- allergies to various substances (food, household, medication, hay fever);
- drug overdose;
- work in hazardous conditions at work;
- liver diseases;
- increased bilirubin in young children;
- high level of acetone in the blood.
Polysorb helps with acute kidney inflammation by binding toxins in the patient’s blood. It can be drunk as a prophylactic after eating stale food, polluted or river water. Experts recommend taking it with you on trips to the sea or on nature hikes. People suffering from an allergic reaction should have it in their home medicine cabinet.
Polysorb for children: instructions for use and dosage
For children under one year of age, the use of the medication can be combined with nutrition. Older children should take the sorbent separately from food (unless we are talking about treating food allergies). The daily dose of the drug is determined in accordance with the age and body weight of the child. It ranges from 100 to 200 milligrams of the main component per kilogram of body weight. The total portion should be divided into 3-4 doses.
For mild pathologies, a minimum dose (100 mg/kg) is prescribed; severe cases require a maximum volume of medication (200 mg/kg). But more often “Polysorb” is recommended in an average portion: 150 milligrams of the drug per kilogram of body weight. By simple arithmetic calculations, you can find out how much powder your child specifically needs. Here are the approximate ratios of children’s body weight and daily dose of the drug:
- 10 kg – from 1 to 2 g;
- 15 kg – from 1.5 to 3 g;
- 20 kg – from 2 to 4 g;
- 25 kg – from 2.5 to 5 g;
- 30 kg – from 3 to 6 g;
- 40 kg – from 4 to 8 g;
- 50 kg – from 5 to 10 g;
- 60 kg – from 6 to 12 g.
How to give for different diseases?
- In case of food allergies, the drug is taken before or during meals. The dose per day should be divided into three doses. How to take Polysorb for allergies, and how long you need to practice this treatment, depends on the severity of the disease. In case of acute intoxication, the drug should be taken for 3-5 days, in case of chronic intoxication, as well as in case of food allergies, Polysorb should be taken for 10-14 days. If the doctor recommends, treatment is repeated after 2-3 weeks.
- In case of a toxic infection or acute poisoning, you should start taking the medicine as soon as symptoms develop. The stomach should be rinsed with a 0.5–1% suspension of Polysorb. If the patient's condition is severe, gastric lavage is practiced on the first day. For adults, a dose of 0.1–0.15 g/kg, 2–3 r., is indicated. in a day.
- For acute intestinal infections, it is practiced to take Polysorb in the first hours of illness in combination with other drugs. On the first day, you need to drink the drug every hour for five hours with an interval of 1 hour at a dose of 0.2 g/kg. On the second day, the dose is divided into 4 doses. Treatment lasts 3-5 days, if necessary it is continued for several more days.
- When treating viral hepatitis, the medicine is used in complex therapy as a means of detoxification. How to use the drug is determined by the doctor, but, as a rule, the usual doses are prescribed in the first 10 days of illness.
- For chronic renal failure, the medication is prescribed for 25–30 days, the dose per day is 0.15–0.2 g/kg. Such courses of therapy can be repeated after 2-3 weeks.
- For dermatoses, Polysorb is taken for 10-14 days, for psoriasis and eczema - 2-3 weeks. The instructions indicate that this remedy is included in the complex treatment of Quincke's edema, eosinophilia, acute urticaria, bronchial asthma, and hay fever. The method of administration and dose is determined by a specialist, but, as a rule, the drug is taken at a dose of 0.2 g/kg until a clinical effect occurs.
- For the purpose of prevention, the dosage of Polysorb MP is 0.1 g/kg, the course of administration is 10-14 days. People with diseases associated with the development of atherosclerosis are recommended to take this daily dose for 1 to 1.5 months. The course of prophylaxis can be repeated after 1-1.5 months.
Senior preschoolers and junior schoolchildren weighing from 31 to 40 kg receive about 75-100 ml of Polysorb at one time. The permitted options with juices are gradually being replaced by a more correct one - with water. Teenagers up to 60 kg already receive a level tablespoon, and those who have crossed the 60 kg mark are calculated as a single dose as a heaped tablespoon. If
special instructions
In case of acute food or toxic poisoning, it is recommended to perform gastric lavage with a 0.5-1% suspension of Polysorb. Before using the drug for a child, you should consult your pediatrician.
The drug is used to cleanse the body, first clearing the intestines of toxins and then the blood.
The powder of the drug is also used externally for the complex treatment of burns, injuries, purulent wounds and trophic ulcers.
When taking Polysorb and other drugs simultaneously, a decrease in their therapeutic effect may be observed.
Polysorb is stored in a dry place, protected from sunlight, at a temperature not exceeding 45 degrees. After opening the package, Polysorb should be stored in a tightly closed container.
Polysorb for children of all ages up to one year and from 1 to 3 years
You can give Polysorb to a child from a very early age. Pediatric dosages are based on body weight. If the patient weighs less than 10 kg, he is given 0.5-1.5 tsp. powder diluted in 30-50 ml of liquid (warm boiled water without gas or breast milk). The prepared suspension is taken in 4 doses: in the morning, at lunchtime, in the evening (around 18:00) and before bedtime.
Polysorb for infants (up to one year)
Polysorb is well tolerated from birth and is approved for use by pregnant women and during lactation. Moreover, due to the absence of dyes and flavors, it is the safest for the treatment of asthmatics, children with liver and kidney diseases. The porous structure of silicon dioxide allows the most gentle binding of gases and toxins, without leading to constipation and even stimulating peristalsis in some cases.
The dose of Polysorb for children is calculated based on weight and ranges from 0.5 to 1.5 teaspoons per day.
There is absolutely no need to give such a volume of the drug once; it is optimal to divide the dose into 3-4 parts and drink the diluted powder in the morning, at lunch, at 6-7 pm and immediately at night. If we are talking about allergies, then the duration of use will be 14 days, and a single dose will be equal to approximately ¼ teaspoon per third glass of water or juice.
In case of one-time poisoning, the child is given a solution of 2 tablespoons of the drug in a full glass of water to drink. This will stop vomiting in 1-4 minutes and quickly absorb toxins. The second, third and subsequent receptions must be calculated based on their body weight.
Polysorb for infants is mainly used for the treatment and prevention of diathesis, as well as to eliminate digestive disorders. The drug should be used only occasionally, that is, when problems occur. Polysorb MP binds predominantly harmful bacteria. This is due to the fact that the normal flora is “stronger” fixed between the intestinal villi. And pathogenic flora, especially when it multiplies abundantly, is located mainly in the intestinal lumen.
Polysorb is used from birth. For infants, it can be diluted in expressed milk immediately before use. For older children, you can dilute the powder in juice without pulp or compote, or mineral water before use.
Some experts recommend Enterosgel for infants, which can be given from 1 month. Enterosgel is a selective sorbent, and it will not disturb the already unstable and weak microflora of the child’s intestines.
Dosage for children 1 year
Polysorb is available in powder form. It cannot be accepted in this form. To obtain a suspension (suspension), it is necessary to dilute the powder with water. Mix thoroughly and give to the child to drink. Proportions and dosage depend on the pathological condition, age and weight of the child. The recommended single dosage depending on weight is as follows:
Child's weight | Instructions for children under one year old |
up to 10 kg | 1 coffee spoon (or 0.5 teaspoon) Polysorb + water (up to 50 ml). |
more than 10 kg | 1 tsp drug + water (40 – 50 ml) Mixed vigorously and gave the child a drink. |
Adviсe:
- It is advisable to pour water into the powder, and not vice versa. This makes it easier to mix;
- Before giving Polysorb to a one-year-old child, it is necessary to prepare a fresh dose of the suspension;
- do not cook for future use;
- Do not store the suspension in the refrigerator.
How to give Polysorb to a 2 year old child?
The daily dosage of Polysorb for children aged two years is no more than 200 mg per kilogram of weight. The calculated dosage is divided into three to four doses per day at equal intervals. You can take no more than half the calculated dosage at a time.
For acute intestinal diseases in children, the duration of treatment is up to five days; if necessary, the course of treatment can be extended to two weeks.
For example, if a child’s body weight is 12 kg, he will need 2.4 g per day, which must be divided into three doses - 800 mg each. On average, this is half a teaspoon without a slide.
Polysorb for a 3 year old child
The daily dosage of Polysorb for children aged 3 years is determined by the child’s weight and the pathology that needs to be combated. You should know that Polysorb must be diluted with water or a liquid that the child will drink - compote, tea (but these should not be carbonated drinks). The result should be a suspension.
To dilute the correct amount of the drug Polysorb, you need to take a teaspoon - without a mountain it can hold 0.6 g of fine powder and calculate: for 1 kg of weight of a 3-year-old child, 0.15 g of the drug Polysorb is needed. The average weight of a 3-year-old child is 20 kg.
It follows that the dosage of Polysorb for children aged 3 years per day = 20 kg * 0.15 g = 3 g of powder, which must be divided into three doses.
Reviews
Natalya, 34 years old:
After my baby went to kindergarten, he began to often suffer from intestinal infections, which we fought by taking Polysorb. I diluted the drug in warm boiled water according to the instructions, and gave my son half a glass of the solution. After this, I definitely give it to him to drink, since the child often complains that the medicine does not taste good.
A few days ago, the baby suddenly began to vomit severely at night at intervals of an hour and a half (there were no other symptoms). The vomiting continued until the morning, the baby complained of pain in the tummy and refused to eat. She gave me Motilium and Polysorb, and by the evening the symptoms had completely disappeared. The second night the child slept peacefully.
The medicine removes all sorts of bad things from the body, so it can still be used for allergies, poisoning, and even hangovers in adults. Based on personal experience, I recommend Polysorb as a sorbent; it deserves a solid five.
Olga, 26 years old:
My daughter has suffered from allergies since birth, and after many years of using various medications, she concluded that only sorbents, Suprastin and local treatment help. The best sorbent, in my opinion, is Polysorb. Activated carbon is also good to use, but it, along with toxins and allergens, removes calcium and other nutrients. Therefore, I prefer Polysorb, as well as Kalcemin and Pikovit to maintain the level of useful elements. After all, my daughter is now breastfed, and it is very important that she develops normally.
We take Suprastin for severe exacerbations - great redness with severe itching. Polysorb is effective for small red spots that appear under the knee or on the wrists. The drug eliminates itching already on the first day of use. My daughter is one and a half years old, she weighs 11 kg, according to the instructions, I give her a level teaspoon an hour before feeding, two to three times a day. Sometimes there is a side reaction - constipation. In such cases, I either reduce the dose to 0.5 teaspoon or give Duphalac.
It is better not to use the medicine for a long time, because sorbents begin to remove vitamins and beneficial microelements. We take the drug for three to five days until the spots go away. It is imperative to adhere to a diet, since without it any treatment will be only temporary, in particular, this applies to dermatitis. My husband and I also often use Polysorb. After eating fatty or fried foods, I experience a feeling of heaviness and bloating. For example, today I ate smoked sausages, and they seemed to be stuck in my throat. I drank Polysorb, and everything went away. And my husband usually uses it when he’s hungover – he says it helps.
Alla, 23 years old:
Polysorb is an effective and easy-to-use sorbent. It can be prescribed to children of any age; it has virtually no side effects. The suspension is odorless, neutral in taste, children drink it without any problems, but it is better to give it something to wash it down, sometimes they feel a dry mouth. The medicine helped perfectly with poisoning, allergies and various digestive disorders. I recommend it to everyone, it's a great product.
Sonya, 28 years old:
Polysorb is a drug that is always in our home medicine cabinet. I am raising my son, and it often happens that he eats something unknown or may get poisoned. This always manifests itself as liquid diarrhea, abdominal pain, weakness, and sometimes vomiting. In such cases, Polysorb comes to our aid. The medicine is very effective, the result can be seen in just a few hours, besides, in my opinion, Polysorb is the best sorbent. The child drinks it without any problems, there were no adverse reactions. Unlike this medicine, Atoxil caused a gag reflex in my son.
In cases of urgent need - first aid for food poisoning accompanied by diarrhea, I definitely use Polysorb. We always have it in our first aid kit, as its speed and effectiveness are undeniable. I give the drug the highest score, I advise you to buy it as a first aid product.
Alena, 24 years old:
When my baby was four months old, we first became acquainted with the drug Polysorb, then my daughter had a terrible allergy. At first we tried to treat it ourselves, but nothing helped. We turned to an allergist, she prescribed a course of therapy, the first point of which was cleansing the body with Polysorb.
The medicine is sold in small bags of three grams, but I bought a large jar of 50 grams. As it turned out later, this turned out to be too much. The jar contained a white powder, which must be diluted in water before use. Once I tried to wash down a spoonful of dry powder with water. Particles got into my nose, it was very disgusting, I coughed for a long time. After this there was an unpleasant sensation in the mouth.
We cleansed the body for five days. After the first dose of the drug, the child became covered with small red dots, became lethargic and quickly fell asleep. I was worried about making things worse, but the next day the first result was noticeable. The skin became lighter, small spots disappeared. A day later, all manifestations of the rash disappeared. After treatment, I still have more than half a jar of powder left. The drug has a good shelf life. I started taking medicine for poisoning, it also helps fight hangovers.
Interaction with other drugs
- In case of combination with acetylsalicylic acid (Aspirin), its antithrombotic effect increases.
- Polysorb is a synergist of Simvastatin and Nicotinic acid: it increases high-density lipoproteins and reduces low and very low-density lipoproteins, thereby reducing the atherogenic index.
- In combination with Furacillin, Trifuran, Bifuran, Chlorhexidine bigluconate, it accelerates the healing process for purulent-inflammatory diseases.
- The drug may reduce the activity of some drugs, so it is recommended to take it separately at intervals of an hour.
Contraindications
A preliminary consultation with a doctor will help prevent the development of side effects from taking the sorbent.
The drug has the following contraindications:
- gastric and duodenal ulcers in the acute stage;
- bleeding;
- intestinal atony is a pathological process in which peristalsis is reduced or absent.
What can you give your child from other sorbents?
If children have allergies or contraindications to taking Polysorb, then they are prescribed analogues. Effective substitutes:
Smecta | This is an adsorbent agent with a pronounced antidiarrheal effect. The drug is well tolerated by children. It contains natural ingredients, so Smecta is safe for children of any age. The disadvantage of the medicine is the presence of orange flavor in its composition, which can lead to the development of allergies. |
Enterosgel | This is a gel for preparing a suspension. The drug does not remove beneficial microelements and vitamins from the body, so you can take the drug with other medications. There is no information about overdose. You can even give the medicine to newborns. |
Microfel | This is a powder for suspension. The medicine is indicated for acute forms of intestinal infections. Can be taken from 3 years of age. In infants, taking the drug can lead to constipation and intestinal colic. Contraindications include hypersensitivity. Activated carbon. This drug binds toxins and removes them naturally. The sorbent should not be taken if you have a stomach ulcer. With its help you can get rid of diarrhea, flatulence and poisoning. |
Polyphepan | A budget-friendly universal sorbent, the components of which perfectly absorb toxins. The medicine is produced in powder form, the active substance is hydrolytic lignin. The medicine is of plant origin, due to which it has a positive effect on cellular immunity. The components are not absorbed into the intestines and are completely eliminated from the body. The medication is indicated for children from birth and women during pregnancy. |
Lactofiltrum | This is a combined drug that is not only a sorbent, but also a prebiotic. It binds various toxins, removes them from the body, and also creates favorable conditions for the development of normal intestinal microflora. The components of the product strengthen local immunity and cope well with dysbacteriosis, colitis and allergies. Available in the form of dark brown tablets. The remedy is indicated for children from one year old. |
Only a doctor can help in choosing an analogue after examining the child and taking into account existing contraindications.
Analogs
The following are used as analogues:
- Silix;
- Smecta;
- Ultrasorb;
- -Activated carbon-;
- Atoxyl;
- Maxisorb;
- Stopdiar (for diarrhea);
- Sorbex;
- Enterosgel.
Lately, there have been frequent debates about which is better for children: Enterosgel or Polysorb? Both of these drugs have the same active ingredient, so they will help solve the problem equally well.
Treatment of vomiting in case of poisoning: features of therapy
For nausea and vomiting caused by poisoning, it is advisable to take Polysorb at the first symptoms. This is the key to a quick recovery and less damage to the body as a result of the disease.
First aid for poisoning and vomiting can be gastric lavage with water using Polysorb sorbent powder. To do this, enterosorbent is diluted in the following proportion: 10 grams of powder per 1 liter of water. After a single wash, the drug is taken orally according to the standard regimen.
Advice! If the poisoning is severe, you may need to cleanse the stomach several times in a row. And only then switch to treatment according to the traditional regimen.
Take the suspension for vomiting immediately after preparation. 3-4 doses per day at regular intervals are usually sufficient.
