Good afternoon, many will be interested in understanding their health and their loved ones, and I will tell you my experience, and we will talk about Phosphalugel and its compatibility with alcohol. Most likely, some details may differ, as was the case with you. Please note that you should always consult with highly specialized specialists and not self-medicate. Naturally, you can quickly find the answer to the simplest questions and diagnose yourself. Write your questions/suggestions in the comments, and together we will improve and supplement the quality of the material provided.
How the drug works
The form of the drug Phosphalugel, as the name implies, is presented in the form of a gel. It contains the following ingredients necessary for treatment:
- aluminum phosphate. This substance was included in the drug due to the fact that it has enveloping properties, as well as adsorbent, antiulcer and antacid properties. Once in the stomach, within 10 minutes it begins active actions, increasing the pH from 3.5 to 5, while managing to reduce the proteoliptic activity of pepsin. How an adsorbent removes dangerous microorganisms, gases and toxins. Antacid properties prevent secondary hypersecretion of hydrochloric acid from appearing, and alkalization of gastric juice does not occur;
- pectin. This polysaccharide can be found in all higher plants, as it is a structural component of plant tissues. Scientists have found that the substance does not dissolve in a liquid medium, but has adsorbing properties. Once in the stomach, pectin absorbs toxic substances, but does not react with the sorbent substance. That is, there is no biochemical change in the blood. Poisonous products are fixed on pectin, and together they are removed from the body. The merit of pectin is that it can remove toxic substances from the body when the intestinal villi cannot pass components above a certain mass. And toxic substances just exceed this limit. Now it becomes clear why pectin was included in the gel;
- sorbitol. Used as a sugar substitute. Therefore, they are often used in the production of dietary products. It is classified as a food sweetener. This substance can have a carminative, choleretic, laxative effect;
- agar-agar. It is best known to lovers of sweets. Used as a vegetable substitute for gelatin, it acts as a thickener.
People's reviews about the drug
- Igor, 28 years old: “We met with former classmates, remembered school jokes, and, of course, drank a lot. And in the morning I have to go to work, I can’t ask for time off, our company is reputable, and they can fire me. Thanks to my neighbor, she gave me Phosphalugel, I drank two sachets at once. I thought it was a children's medicine, but after 20 minutes the nausea disappeared and I felt much better. During the day I drank this medicine several more times. Amazing effect. Now I always have this gel at home. Just in case."
- Natalya, 35 years old: “I often had grievances with my mother-in-law. She is always teaching. But recently we went out of town to relax. We were in the forest, and the children, one 6 and the other 9 years old, got poisoned. I was very scared, and my mother-in-law took Phosphalugel out of her bag and gave it to the children. Everything returned to normal almost immediately. Now in our family this is now the most reliable remedy; it has helped me and my husband out more than once.”

Phosphalugel is indicated for food and drink poisoning.
Instructions for use in case of food poisoning
You can find out that poisoning has occurred by a violent reaction in the gastrointestinal tract. Severe pain begins in this area, and stool is disrupted. General weakness is also felt, sweating appears, and the gag reflex is triggered. Most often, pathogenic microorganisms and their toxins or other substances that are non-microbial in nature are to blame.
That's when you urgently need Phosphalugel. The dose for adults primarily depends on the cause or nature of the disease. If the poisoning is acute, you should drink a loading dose - up to three sachets at once. Then it is better to lie down to monitor your own condition in a calm environment. If no improvement is observed, the symptoms of poisoning remain, you need to take 1 – 2 more sachets.
Usually this dosage is enough to block the poisoning process. The next day your health should return to normal. But if not all toxic substances have been removed from the body, residual effects of the process may remain. In this case, you will have to resume treatment by taking 1 or 2 more sachets.
It is permissible to use the drug for 3 days, but no more, since too much stress will be placed on the body.
If the poisoning is not so severe, therapy is carried out as follows:
- the first day you should use 1 – 2 sachets every three hours;
- second day - one sachet after a three-hour break;
- third day - one dose in the morning, the second in the evening.
Features of treatment for alcohol poisoning
The culprit of alcohol poisoning is ethanol, which is present in all alcoholic drinks. It is a chemical compound with a narcotic effect. It has the ability to be quickly absorbed by the stomach, and then penetrate into all body systems and tissues. This is why it is so difficult to deal with alcohol poisoning.
But Phosphalugel copes well with this difficult task. Its merit is that it stops the effects of ethanol, which irritates the mucous membrane of the stomach and intestines, and normalizes the general condition.
Alcohol poisoning is treated this way. Take 2-3 sachets every 3 hours. In the morning, the next day, you should cleanse the intestines of toxins, which at this time are filled with toxic substances. If this does not work naturally, it is advisable to do an enema. There is no need to repeat the medication.
If a hangover is present, you should take three sachets at once, and after 4 hours, after emptying your intestines, drink another dose of the gel.
The maximum you can take during the day is no more than 6 sachets.
Phosphalugel and alcoholic beverages
Taking alcohol-containing products entails poisoning and intoxication as a result of contact with alkaloids and acetaldehydes, which provoke addiction to strong drinks.
When hydrochloric acid and ethanol are combined, a violent reaction occurs, causing an imbalance in the intestinal microflora. With chronic use, a person develops a stomach ulcer, often becoming severe.
To avoid any negative consequences, it is recommended to drink Phosphalugel before drinking alcohol.
The adsorbent property of the medicine will help get rid of the influence of alkaloids, prevent severe intoxication, and also preserve the liver and gastrointestinal tract. The product helps remove toxins from the blood through sweating or urine.
In case of serious alcohol poisoning, a short therapeutic course should be carried out. On the first day, you can bypass the iron restriction and drink 4 sachets of medication throughout the day. Over the next 24 hours, you need to reduce the dosage by one unit. On the third and fourth days, drink 2 sachets, in the morning and before bed.
In this way, all side effects will be eliminated and the problem of alcohol poisoning will be resolved.
Below is a list of desirable restrictions:
Contraindications

The drug contains sorbitol, so patients with diabetes should use it only in extreme cases.
If a person has bowel problems or reduced motility, the medicine may cause constipation, so it is necessary to drink more fluids during treatment. If an overdose occurs, the body may also react with intestinal obstruction. In this case, laxatives will definitely be needed.
The drug should not be taken together with alcoholic beverages.
During pregnancy and lactation, Phosphalugel is taken very carefully, under the supervision of a doctor.

Information about the medicine
Phosphalugel is produced in the form of a gel for oral administration. The therapeutic effect of the drug is provided by the active substance - aluminum phosphate.
In addition to this, the drug contains inactive components:
The gel is a white, homogeneous, thick liquid that smells like orange.
Phosphalugel is an antacid. It neutralizes the high acidity of gastric juice without causing alkalization of the stomach contents. The gel has an enveloping and sorbing effect. The medication weakens the proteolytic effect of pepsin. While taking the drug, it is possible to maintain acidity at a natural level, it does not provoke the re-release of hydrochloric acid.
The sorbent accelerates the evacuation of toxic substances, gases and microbes from the gastrointestinal tract and normalizes intestinal contents. After taking the medicine, a protective layer is formed on the gastrointestinal mucosa. If you take alcohol and Phosphalugel at the same time, the adsorbent prevents the appearance of lesions on the walls of the digestive tract.
In addition, the drug is prescribed for the following pathologies:
- digestive tract ulcer;
- gastritis, in which there is normal or increased acidity of gastric juice;
- hiatal hernia;
- functional dyspepsia;
- gastrointestinal disorders that are caused by poisoning with medications, irritants, including alkalis and acids;
- functional pathology of the large intestine;
- gastroesophageal reflux, GERD, due to which the patient is bothered by heartburn and sour belching.
The gel can be drunk to reduce the absorption of radioactive substances.
It is allowed for pregnant women and breastfeeding women.
Antacid Yamanouchi Pharma SpA Phosphalugel – review
Good day to all.
I became acquainted with this remedy thanks to a gastroenterologist and now this remedy is always in my medicine cabinet. I consider phosphalugel to be a truly universal remedy; the whole family uses it.
Place of purchase. Pharmacy
Price. Depending on the pharmacy chain, it varies from 280 to 380 rubles for 20 sachets. In some pharmacies the drug is divided, the cost of one sachet is from 16 to 30 rubles.
Release form.
gel for oral administration 16 grams 6 sachets or 20 sachets
Since we use phosphalugel as a family, I always buy a large package.
Packaging and appearance.
Phosphalugel sachets are in a large cardboard box, it takes up a lot of space. The gel itself is packaged in individual paper packaging.
All information about the required dose and composition is printed both on each bag and on the box.
It is very convenient that each bag has a cut line.
But as you can see even from the photo, it is not always possible to evenly tear the bags apart from each other. Due to premature delivery, the medicine may be placed in the wrong place, which is not very convenient. Therefore, despite the compactness of the bag, for me it is not suitable as a medicine that you can carry with you in your purse, which is a pity...
Compound:
aluminum phosphate gel 20% 12.38 g,
which corresponds to the aluminum phosphate content of 2.48 g
Excipients: sorbitol solution 70% – 4.286 g, agar-agar 800 – 0.08 g, pectin – 0.1 g, calcium sulfate dihydrate – 0.01 g, potassium sorbate – 0.053 g, orange flavoring – 0.032 g, purified water – up to 20 g.
I am not a pharmacist, but this drug is prescribed by doctors during pregnancy, which indicates its safety, and it is also suitable for small children.
Range of applications:
The box contains a non-exhaustive list:
Peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum in the acute phase, chronic gastritis with increased and normal secretory function of the stomach in the acute phase, acute gastritis, acute duodenitis, symptomatic ulcers of various origins, erosion of the gastrointestinal mucosa, reflux esophagitis, hiatal hernia, enterocolitis, sigmoiditis, proctitis, diverticulitis, diarrhea in patients after gastrectomy, dyspeptic symptoms (including neurotic origin, after errors in diet, taking medications, chemotherapy), acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis in the acute phase, poisoning and intoxication.
For the purpose of prevention to reduce the absorption of radioactive elements.
Like any medicine, of course there are side effects:
From the digestive system: constipation (especially in elderly and bedridden patients), nausea, vomiting, changes in taste.
From laboratory parameters: with long-term use in high doses - hypophosphatemia, hypocalcemia, increased aluminum content in the blood.
From the musculoskeletal system: osteomalacia, osteoporosis.
From the side of the central nervous system: encephalopathy.
From the urinary system: hypercalciuria, nephrocalcinosis, renal failure.
I would like to note right away that none of my family members experienced any side effects, even with long-term use.
My impressions and results.
Color.
The gel is white.
Taste.
The gel has a light orange taste, so children can easily drink it, but for me I won’t say that the taste is wonderful, it is a little specific.
Despite the fact that this gel cannot be called thick. Before use, be sure to knead the bag with your fingers. We drink it not diluted with water, but in its pure form.
Diarrhea.
Phosphalugel copes well with this scourge; as a rule, one or two sachets are enough. Phosphalugel does not cause beneficial substances from the body, so it can be taken without fear.
Stomach pain.
Pain can be caused by various problems.
My husband’s pain was associated with erosion, the doctor prescribed phosphalugel. My stomach hurt very badly while taking antibiotics. When taking phosphalugel, in both cases the pain went away, and quite quickly.
Phosphalugel perfectly envelops the walls of the stomach, so it is perfect for gastritis, pancreatitis and other ailments.
Heartburn.
I use phosphalugel for heartburn, since I am in a position where heartburn often torments me. The product is approved for pregnant women, so I use it without fear. The gel helps me after about five minutes.
Food and alcohol poisoning.
If you have already been poisoned, then phosphalugel also comes to your aid as it is a sorbent. A few sachets significantly alleviate this condition.
But such poisonings can be prevented. The husband very often feels unwell after feasts where alcohol is present, even if he drank a little. He has a very bad headache and generally feels bad.
Therefore, before such events, he drinks two sachets of phosphalugel and the next day he feels much better.
Any sorbent is suitable for such prevention, but for example, enterosgel has a rather nasty taste and is extremely difficult to drink, but phosphalugel, which is pleasant, does not cause any discomfort, it can be easily drunk.
For me, this drug is truly universal, as it helps perfectly with a large number of problems.
Pros:
- Helps with many problems
- Fast acting
- Easy to drink, no need to dilute or burn with water
- Sold in every pharmacy
- Suitable for pregnant women and children
- Is an antacid and sorbent
- Does not remove important substances and vitamins from the body
Minuses:
If you are interested, you can read other reviews about health products:

Directions for use and dosage for hangovers and alcohol intoxication
Phosphalugel for a hangover can be consumed undiluted or pre-diluted in 0.5 glasses of water. Before taking, knead the contents of the sachet with your hands to form a homogeneous gel. Tear off or cut off the corner of the bag along the line marked with a dotted line.
Phosphalugel can be taken to prevent hangovers and alcohol poisoning.
To prevent a hangover, it is recommended to drink Phosphalugel at least half an hour before drinking alcohol before drinking alcohol. When ethyl alcohol enters the body, it is sorbed by the gel and excreted naturally. Ethanol irritates the gastric mucosa, which provokes an increase in the amount of hydrochloric acid. Phosphalugel neutralizes its excess, resulting in the disappearance of pain in the stomach.
To prevent a hangover, Phosphalugel should be drunk 1-2 packets according to the following scheme:
- an hour to half an hour before drinking alcohol;
- during a feast;
- after drinking alcohol, at night.
It is recommended to drink Phosphalugel for alcohol poisoning, including those caused by the use of alcohol-containing medications, in the following dosages:
Age | Single dose | Frequency of intake per day |
Less than six months old | 0.25 sachet and 1 tsp. | six times |
Over six months | 0.5 sachet and 2 tsp. | four times |
Children over 6 years old and adults | 1-2 sachets | three times |
Phosphalugel for a hangover should be taken 1-2 sachets twice or thrice a day. It is not recommended to take more than 6 sachets per day.
Taking Phosphalugel gel after alcohol eliminates the following hangover symptoms:
- gastralgia;
- nausea;
- normalization of stool with diarrhea or constipation.
How to take medicine correctly
There have been no cases of overdose of Phosphalugel, but you need to know how to take the drug and in what cases, so that complications and worsening of the situation do not arise in the future.
Doctors do not rule out that if you abuse the medication, you can get poisoned, so it is important to adhere to the standard dosage regimen:
- For gastritis or gastrointestinal disorder, the jelly-like drug should be taken in the morning, after waking up and in the evening before bed;
- Patients with stomach or duodenal ulcers should take the medicine several hours after meals or in case of severe pain;
- For chronic imbalance of intestinal microflora, you need to take the drug twice a day, in the morning after waking up and after 6 hours;
- If flatulence or diarrhea occurs from fatty, hot or spicy foods, it is recommended to use Phosphalugel immediately, before pain and bloating occur;
- After drinking vodka or other alcohol-containing products, you need to take the jelly-like drug immediately to prevent a hangover.
It is important to remember that one adult is allowed to take no more than three packets of Phosphalugel per day. Otherwise, there is a high risk of overdose.
Adverse reactions
Taking Phosphalugel during a hangover can cause stool retention. Constipation is especially common in older people. In this case, it is recommended to increase the amount of fluid consumed.
In addition, taking aluminum phosphate during a hangover can cause the following undesirable reactions:
- nausea, vomiting, taste perversion;
- increase or decrease in calcium levels in the body;
- renal failure;
- formation of calcifications in the kidneys;
- decreased levels of phosphorus in the bloodstream;
- increasing the concentration of aluminum in the body;
- non-inflammatory brain disease;
- insufficient mineralization of bone tissue, osteoporosis.
In older people and patients with kidney dysfunction, taking anti-hangover medication in a therapeutic dosage can cause an increase in aluminum levels in the blood. Phosphalugel in people with kidney failure can cause thirst, a drop in blood pressure, and weakened reflexes.
In case of overdose, symptomatic treatment and laxatives are prescribed.
Phosphalugel does not slow down the speed of the psychomotor reaction, so drivers and people working with potentially dangerous mechanisms can take the gel after a hangover.
The drug does not distort the results of x-ray examination.
Possible side effects
Despite the fact that Phosphalugel was created to help with alcohol intoxication, its use can provoke a number of side effects:
- feeling of nausea and vomiting;
- taste sensations change;
- constipation occurs (this side effect most often develops in older people and those who suffer from alcoholism).
If Phosphalugel is used for longer than the prescribed two days, the following side effects cannot be ruled out:
- the amount of phosphorus in the blood decreases, which provokes the formation of hypophosphatemia;
- the occurrence of hypocalcemia, a disease characterized by a reduced amount of calcium in the blood, cannot be ruled out;
- destruction of bone tissue occurs, and as a consequence - osteomalacia;
- an increase in aluminum levels is observed in the body;
- renal failure develops;
- Occasionally, calcium may be deposited in the kidneys, which provokes nephrocalcinosis.

Analogs
Instead of Phosphalugel, you can take other antacids for a hangover:
- Almagel. It is produced in the form of a suspension, which contains algeldrate and magnesium hydroxide as medicinal components. Almagel taken with a hangover can cause stool retention, nausea, vomiting, taste distortion, stomach cramps, changes in mood and mental activity, allergies, increased magnesium levels in the blood, and osteomalacia. If you have a hangover, it is recommended to drink 5-10 ml of antacid three to four times a day.
