Damage to the body by pathogenic microbes, toxic substances, chemicals or heavy metals provokes poisoning of varying degrees of severity. The toxin can cause irritation of the digestive system or, conversely, lead to irreversible loss of vital functions. Poisoning by toadstool and fly agaric requires immediate medical attention. A poisonous snake bite also cannot be cured with herbs and medications. Herbs used in folk medicine can sometimes help against poisoning with drugs, food or other toxic substances.
What types of poisoning can be relieved with herbs?
Traditional methods of treatment are used in mild cases of poisoning, usually caused by food and alcoholic beverages.
Food poisoning
This condition is associated with the consumption of eggs, meat, dairy and fish products that were stored without refrigeration. Pathogenic microbes (clostridia, Proteus, staphylococcus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, etc.) are able to multiply in food at room temperature.
Bacteria enter the body with confectionery, beer, and soups. Some of them increase the secretion of fluid and salts inside the stomach and intestines. Others damage the inner lining of the digestive organs and disrupt protein synthesis in them. From the moment of exposure to the appearance of signs of poisoning, it takes from 30 minutes to 2–3 hours.
Mild poisoning occurs without severe inflammation of the epithelium of the stomach and intestines, so the temperature does not rise. In these cases, herbs can be used for poisoning, but only after gastric lavage.
With repeated vomiting and diarrhea, the body becomes dehydrated and loses important microelements. Blood pressure decreases. With such dangerous symptoms, a person cannot do without medical help.
Alcohol poisoning
Sometimes drinking too much alcohol leads to alcohol poisoning. The liver copes with mild forms of intoxication. This organ neutralizes the effects of alcohol, breaking it down into safe metabolites.
But the reserves of enzymes in the liver are limited. Unneutralized ethyl alcohol, entering the brain through the bloodstream, poisons nerve cells. Coordination of movements is impaired, the heart contracts less frequently, nausea and vomiting appear.
Urgent home measures in such cases are gastric lavage with a solution of baking soda. In 1 liter of water stir 1 tbsp. l. powder and give the victim a drink. Then they make him vomit. The procedure must be repeated several times until the stomach is completely cleared of food and alcohol. Then you should drink activated carbon. Crushed 4-5 tablets are mixed with water and given to the poisoned person. The sorbent intake is repeated every 5 hours. You can also use other drugs - Polysorb, Filtrum-sti, Enterosgel, Smecta.
Treatment of metal poisoning
Our life is closely connected with various metals. Their content can be found in dishes, detergents, medicine, radiation from the operation of household appliances, in the air itself, which is saturated with the exhaust gases of many cars. In this regard, the body gradually accumulates metal elements, the immune system loses strength, which leads to poisoning.
Metal compounds enter the body with food, air, and sometimes through mucous membranes. Their deposition in tissues and organs causes damage to the latter, body functions are disrupted, and a person becomes vulnerable to exacerbation of existing chronic diseases.
- stomach ache;
- nausea leading to vomiting;
- diarrhea, sometimes constipation;
- renal failure;
- migraine, fatigue;
- nasal congestion, cough.
An infusion of horsetail will help remove metal compounds from the body. You will need 10 g of dry horsetail herb, which is steamed with boiling water (200 ml). Drink 0.5 cups of decoction several times a day.
